Tactics to keep your property safe
Following recent events of property theft from homes around the Coolum Division, police are reminding residents to secure your property.
Items were stolen from a unsecured garage whilst the residents were home. Offenders entered the property and stole items that were visible from the footpath. Most of the items have subsequently been recovered and investigations are continuing.
Homes with windows and doors left open and unsecured, curtains closed during the day or mail and newspapers left to accumulate in the letter box are more likely to attract a potential burglar.
A burglar is usually looking for cash or small valuable items such as mobile phones, jewellery, DVD players, laptops, MP3 players and other small electronic items that can be sold quickly for cash.
Tactics that can help prevent property theft include engraving and ID of your property, recording serial numbers, report suspicious behaviour via Policelink, taking photos of your property and securing your premises.
