Be safe while out and about.
by Senior Constable Carol Spurdle.
Sandgate Police are reminding local residents to be mindful of their personal safety at all times, after several concerning incidents in the last few days.
Residents attending shopping complexes in the Bracken Ridge area have reported to police being approached by a female person who is begging for money. More concerning, on several occasions this female has asked for a lift to a house, and unsuspecting members of our community have obliged. Begging for money is an offence. You are putting yourself at risk of losing more than you intended to give, if you open your wallet in this situation. Whilst it is not illegal to give somebody a lift, if that person is not known to you, you are putting yourself in a dangerous position. Please, do not allow this to happen to you. Police have increased patrols in these areas.
Please report any concerning behaviour to police on 131 444 for non-urgent matters or 000 in the case of an emergency.
Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
