The state of crime in Brisbane

There's little argument that the Queensland capital of Brisbane can be a wonderful place to live. On its annual list of the world's most liveable places, The Economist placed it as number 18, a more than respectable result in the global survey of 140 cities.

Look a little closer at those findings, however, and you may agree that while 18th is a decent result, four other Australian cities featured higher up the rankings. So what is it that leaves Brisbane trailing Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth? It may not be the only factor at play, but a rising crime rate in the city surely isn't helping matters.

Crime in the Queensland capital

According to figures from the Queensland Police, reports of crime in Brisbane have been trending upwards for around the last five years. In 2015, however, the situation reached its worst point in over 15 years, with almost 460,000 reported incidents across the city. Much of the blame for the increases can be placed on drug offences, which have more than doubled since 2010.

While the authorities work tirelessly to address these troubling issues, individuals and businesses can take the initiative and reach out to private security firms to protect themselves, their families and their property.
